Etsy takes $9.95 from a $100 sale. That is the $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee of $6.50, and payment processing of $3.25. You keep $90.05.
If that sale came through Offsite Ads, Etsy takes $24.95 and you keep $75.05. Offside Ads are optional until you reach a certain amount in sales. As of August 2026, if you reach $10k in sales revenue in a 12-month period, your Etsy shop is automatically enrolled into Etsy’s Offsite Ads program. There is no up-front-costs, but the pay-per-sale fee is 12%, and it stays that way even if your shop’s sales fall below $10k.
If you opt in to Etsy Offsite Ads before you hit $10k sales in your Etsy shop, the fee is 15%.
The Breakdown on a $100 Sale
| Fee | What Etsy charges | On a $100 sale |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of item price plus shipping | $6.50 |
| Payment processing, US | 3% plus $0.25 | $3.25 |
| Offsite Ads, if attributed | 15%, or 12% over $10k in sales | $15.00 or $12.00 |
| You keep | without Offsite Ads | $90.05 |
Every figure here was checked against Etsy’s own Fees and Payments Policy on 19 August 2026. Sources are linked in each section below.
The Listing Fee Is Not Once
You pay $0.20 to list an item, and Etsy listings expire after four months. If you have automatic renewals on, which is the default, you pay another $0.20 every four months whether it sells or not. You also pay $0.20 again each time one sells from a multiple quantity listing.
So a shop with 200 listings that never sells anything still pays roughly $120 a year to sit there. That is worth knowing before you list 500 designs to see what sticks.
The Transaction Fee Includes Your Shipping
The 6.5% is charged on the price you display plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrapping. Payment processing is assessed on the total sale as well, including shipping and tax.
That kills a trick people still recommend. Splitting your price into a cheaper item and a separate shipping charge does not reduce what Etsy takes, because both fees apply to the total either way. A $90 item with $10 shipping and a $100 item with free shipping cost you exactly the same in fees. The only thing that changes is which one ranks better in search, and free shipping usually wins that.
Offsite Ads Is the One That Hurts
Etsy buys advertising on search engines and social networks. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and then orders from your shop within 30 days of that click, that order is attributed to Etsy and you pay an advertising fee on it.
- The standard fee is 15% of the order total.
- Once your shop passes $10,000 USD in sales over any 365 day period, the rate drops to 12%.
- Under $10,000 you can opt out. Once you cross it, you are enrolled for the lifetime of the shop and cannot opt out again, even if sales fall back below.
- The fee is capped at $100 on any single order.
Read that third point twice. Crossing $10,000 in sales is a milestone that permanently changes your cost structure, and the rate improving from 15% to 12% is the consolation prize for losing the ability to opt out. Plan your pricing for the 12% world before you get there, not after.

Cheaper Items Lose a Bigger Percentage
The listing fee and the $0.25 of payment processing are flat, so they weigh more on a small order. Etsy takes 9.95% of a $100 sale but 11.3% of a $25 sale. Add Offsite Ads and a $25 order gives up 26.3% before you have paid for the product.
| Sale price | Etsy fees | Effective rate | With Offsite Ads at 15% |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | $9.95 | 9.95% | $24.95, or 24.9% |
| $25 | $2.82 | 11.3% | $6.57, or 26.3% |
This is why the advice to compete on low priced items is worse than it looks on a spreadsheet. The platform takes a bigger share of every cheap sale you make.
Now Add What the Product Costs You
Etsy’s cut is only half of it. On a print on demand order you also pay the supplier, and a t-shirt runs $9.99 to $20.35 delivered depending on the blank and who prints it.
| Product type | Item cost | Delivered to a US customer |
|---|---|---|
| T-Shirt | $9.44 to $15.60 | $9.99 to $20.35 |
| Sweatshirt | $16.00 to $19.17 | $25.26 to $27.66 |
| Hoodie | $21.58 to $22.63 | $28.97 to $31.12 |
Prices verified September 9, 2026 and refreshed again on the first of every month.
On a $25 shirt that came through Offsite Ads, Etsy takes $6.57 and the supplier takes somewhere between $9.99 and $20.35. That is most of the sale, and it is the arithmetic that decides whether a design is worth listing.
Rather than doing this by hand, put your own numbers in the Etsy profit calculator. It has every fee on this page built in, including both Offsite Ads rates, and it fills in the supplier costs for you. Selling on Shopify instead? There is a Shopify version.
